About Good Shepherd
Lutheran Church

What is in a name?
Chartered as the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, we seek to reach out to our community with the message of Jesus Christ that truly is “good news.” Wherever you are in your faith journey, we would like to help you take the next steps to growing in an intimate relationship with our Good Shepherd.

As a community of faith committed to worship, learning, and service, we hope these pages will help you learn a little more about us. Even more importantly, we would like to get to know you. Please feel free to visit us at any time, or to contact us with any questions.

Visitor Information
Thanks for checking us out! Whether your visiting our area on vacation or business, have recently moved to Virginia Beach, or are a long-time resident, you will experience a warm and friendly welcome at Good Shepherd. Come and enjoy worship that is traditional in style and casual in atmosphere.

Wondering what to expect at Good Shepherd? Here are answers to some commonly asked questions:

What is worship like?
Following a pattern of worship whose roots are ancient, we use a variety of musical settings to celebrate the traditional liturgy of the Lutheran Church. For more information on our worship services, click the following link: worship

How often do we have communion? Who is invited to participate?
Holy Communion is celebrated weekly at each of our Sunday services. All baptized believers, including children who normally commune, are invited to receive the bread and wine. Children who have not yet received communion instruction are invited forward, as well, for a blessing. Grape juice is also available for those who do not wish to drink wine.

How should I dress?
Be comfortable! In the spirit of the beach, Good Shepherd is a “come as you are” type of place. Jeans or shorts are just as welcome as suits and ties.

What about my kids?
At Good Shepherd we seek to be a community of worship. As such, we love to have children in worship believing that it is through participating with the community that children learn best what worship is about. For those who are interested, a supervised nursery is provided for young children through age 5.

Is there Sunday School available?
September through May we have Christian education activities for all ages, children through adults. Youth in grades 9 -12 are especially invited to check out our Youth Forum. There are no formal Sunday School programs during the months in which we are on our summer schedule, though we do invite everyone to join us for conversation over coffee and snacks.

Where are we located?
We are located at 1489 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, less than two miles from the Oceanfront. For directions here.

If you should visit us for worship, please fill out one of our Welcome folders that will be passed out during worship. This will help us get to know you, allow us to answer any questions you may have, and let you know what's happening. Join us well for our Coffee Fellowship following the service so that we might have the joy of personally welcoming you to Good Shepherd.
