Rev. Scott Mims |
Scott
was first introduced to the Lutheran Church by a friend in
college. From a “rediscovery” of faith to a love
for worship to a call to serve, much has followed from that
simple invitation. Because of this, Scott is passionate about
helping others connect their lives to the life of Jesus Christ
and to His Church.
Ordained by the ELCA in 1998, Scott served congregations
in Sheffield and Ludlow, Pennsylvania and in Roanoke, Virginia
prior to coming to Good Shepherd in 2007. His areas of interest
include youth & young adults, marriage ministry, stewardship,
Christian formation, and the Alpha Course. Scott is a trained
Healthy Congregations facilitator for the Virginia Synod,
and a regular small group leader in the Synod’s ACTS
program.
Scott is a graduate of Clemson University (B.S. Chemical Engr.)
and of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (M.Div.).
He enjoys playing music and the great outdoors, but most especially
spending time with Cathy and their two children. |

Rev. Cathy
Mims |
Cathy,
a native Minnesotan, grew up in the Lutheran Church,
and her love for the Church deepened through her involvement
in Lutheran Campus Ministry while she attended Indiana
University. The influence of LCM and the encouragement
of her campus pastor drew her to seminary, which she
attended in Columbia, SC.
She
graduated from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary
and was ordained in 1998. Having served congregations
in Tionesta, PA and in Roanoke, VA, she came to Good
Shepherd with her husband, Scott in July of 2007. She
has experience in children and family ministry, marriage
enrichment and small groups, and is driven by a longing
to touch others with the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Cathy
serves on the steering committee for the Roots and Wings
Ministry of the Virginia Synod (www.vasynodroots.org)
and on the Christian Education Committee for the Virginia
Synod. She is also a trained Healthy Congregations
facilitator.
Cathy’s
hobbies include knitting, cooking and baking, playing
piano and singing, reading, walking along the ocean shore,
and spending time with her husband, two children and
her mother. |

Patricia "Pat"
Morgan |
Pat
first came to the Hampton Roads area in 1961 as a student
at Hampton Institute with plans of becoming a Physical
Therapist. Instead, she ended up in the banking industry,
working as a Branch Manager and Loan officer for eleven
years. Pat joined the staff as the Administrator at Good
Shepherd over sixteen years ago as a favor to then Pastor
Siler, a close friend. Since that time her witness, enthusiasm,
and good sense have served as an anchor for our congregation.
Pat is also very active in her own congregation, Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, where she has been a member for 34 years.
Pat has also served on the Virginia Synod Council, as Secretary
of the Virginia Synod, and on several committees and task
groups of the Synod.
Pat was married for 28 years to her late husband, Harvey
Morgan. She has a son, three step-children, and nine grandchildren.
She loves music, and for the past 25 years has sung with
the Virginia Beach Chorale. Reading is also one of her
passions, as is anything Italian, especially good Italian
food and wine. Pat plans someday to spend several months
touring Italy. |

Steve Sunderland |
Organist
Steve Sunderland is a music education graduate of Pennsylvania
State University, with a major in keyboard music. He began
his teaching career as an elementary music specialist with
Virginia Beach City Public Schools in 1970. Since then,
he has taught general music, choral music, orchestra, and
band in all grades from kindergarten through high school.
Though officially retired from teaching since 2003, Steve
continues to teach part-time.
Our longest-serving staff member, Steve has been the Organist
and Choir Director at Good Shepherd since 1977. He is married
to Frances, and they have two sons, Eric and Christopher,
both of whom have grown up at Good Shepherd. Both Frances
and Chris join Steve in the choir each Sunday, while Eric
is presently in graduate school at the University of Cincinnati.
Offshore fishing is one of Steve’s favorite pastimes,
though he also enjoys woodworking, gardening, photography,
computers and working on cars. This year Steve began the
ambitious project of building a German harpsichord, which
is now nearly complete. |
